Privacy Policy

The short version: your notes stay on your Mac. Our server only knows what it needs to handle purchases and, if you choose, email. We don’t sell your information, show ads, or use trackers.

Your notes stay on your Mac

• Notes, titles, tags and the source details saved with them (such as a page title, website address or app name) are stored on your Mac. They are never uploaded to our servers.
• To flip a window, Flippy Notes uses the Accessibility and Screen Recording permissions you grant in macOS and takes one picture of the window you flip. By default, a smaller copy of that picture is saved with the new note on your Mac, so you can recall where the note came from. It is never uploaded. You can turn this off inSettings › Sources & Privacy, and remove any note’s picture from the note.
• Exports and imports only use files you choose.

What our server handles

The App Store version of Flippy Notes talks to our server at api.flippynotes.com. When it first starts, it creates an anonymous account with:

• a random account ID and an access token (kept in your Mac’s Keychain);
• a random purchase ID that the App Store attaches to your purchases, so they can be matched to your account;
• the app version and when the app last checked in.

If you buy a Coffee Club membership

Apple sends us, and the app forwards, signed purchase records: the product, transaction IDs, purchase and renewal dates, whether it will renew, refunds, and whether it was a test purchase. We never receive your payment card or Apple Account details.

If you sign in with email (optional)

Your email address, when you confirmed it, and whether you agreed to receive tips. Signing in is never required to use or buy Flippy Notes.

Usage counts

The app may send simple counts, such as how many notes you have and whether you have tried a flip, so we only send help emails that make sense. It never sends note content.

Email

• We only email addresses you give us: sign-in codes and messages about your account, purchases and billing.
• Tips and reminders are sent only if you opt in, and each one has a one-click unsubscribe link.
• If you ask this website to send the Flippy Notes link to your Mac, we use that address to send that one email. We keep a record of the request for 30 days, only to stop the form being used to send repeated or unwanted email, then delete it. We never add that address to any other email.
• Email is delivered by Amazon Web Services (Amazon SES), which tells us whether a message was delivered, bounced or marked as spam. We stop emailing addresses that bounce or complain.

This website

flippynotes.com doesn’t use cookies, analytics or advertising trackers. Like any website, our hosting and Cloudflare process your IP address and basic request details to deliver pages and protect against abuse.

Who processes information for us

• Apple — App Store payments, purchase records and notifications.
• Hetzner Online — our server, hosted in Germany.
• Cloudflare — domain name service, network delivery and security.
• Amazon Web Services — email delivery (Amazon SES).

We don’t sell or share your information for advertising.

How long we keep it

• Account information is kept while your account exists. When you delete your account, we delete it along with your email address, preferences and the purchase records linked to it. Apple keeps its own records of your purchases.
• Requests to send the link to your Mac are deleted after 30 days.
• Security records, such as request-rate counters and server logs, are kept only briefly.

Your choices and rights

You can ask us to show, correct, export or delete your information, and you can unsubscribe from tips at any time. To delete your account, use the option in the app when available, or email[email protected]. Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EU and UK, or California law), you may have further rights, including complaining to your data protection authority.

Children

Flippy Notes isn’t directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their information.

Changes

If this policy changes, we’ll update this page and the date above. Significant changes will also be announced in the app or by email.
